Welcome to the world famous Roscoe's Chili Challenge, as seen in tons of major biker publications!
Lex Morton Taylor, Jr., passed away peacefully on July 11, 2015, after a brief illness, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Lex was born in Florence, Alabama in 1942. His family relocated to Bartow, Florida in 1954, where Lex attended Summerlin Institute. At Summerlin, along with his scholastic studies, Lex enjoyed playing basketball and was a team member in 1958, when Summerlin won the State Basketball Championship. After graduating from Summerlin, Lex attended the University of Florida, in Gainesville, and graduated with a BA degree in accounting. After obtaining his college BA, Lex enlisted in the United States Navy, where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant and served as a Navy supply officer on the U.S.S. America during the Vietnam war.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Lex returned to Gainesville, Florida, where he obtained a Juris Doctorate at the University of Florida Frederic G. Levin College of Law. Lex returned to Polk County, Florida, where he began his law practice in 1971 and continued to practice until his recent passing. Lex was a “Proud Gator” and often sported Gator clothing and regularly attended local fundraising events for the University of Florida football team.
Lex had a passion for sports, including motorcycle riding and tennis. Lex enjoyed billiards and poker. His passion for motorcycle riding lead him to focus his law practice on representing injured motorcyclists. He was a founding member of the Polk County Chapter of ABATE, a national motorcycle organization that focuses on educating riders and the public on motorcycle safety and awareness. Lex enjoyed organizing and riding in the Polk County Chapter of ABATE’s Toys for Tots, which provides toys to less fortunate children.
Lex is survived by five children: Lex Taylor, III, Jason Taylor, Heidi Taylor Cashman, Nicolas Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor Maynard; his sisters, Barbara Taylor Cobb and Patricia Taylor McDonald, and ten grandchildren. Lex was preceded in death by his father, Lex Morton Taylor, and his mother, Gladys Woodfin Taylor.
